What is OmniJoin Interoperability?

OmniJoin Interoperability is an optional add-on for OmniJoin (v7) customers that allows connectivity between OmniJoin and "traditional" boardroom video conferencing systems such as those sold by Polycom®, Cisco®/Tandberg® and LifeSize®.

Why should I consider OmniJoin Interoperability?

  • Extend the reach of your room-based system to desktops, laptops and mobile devices
  • Add far more sophisticated collaboration features than generally available in room systems
  • Make it easier to connect to customers’ and business partners’ room-based systems that may find it much easier to route to a globally accessible OmniJoin IP address than your existing room system

What room systems are compatible with OmniJoin?

Generally speaking most recent rooms systems from Cisco/Tandberg, Polycom and LifeSize are compatible with OmniJoin Interoperability.

What room system video conferencing and live data sharing protocols does OmniJoin Interoperability support?

OmniJoin Interoperability supports H.323 system/H.264 video/G.722 audio/H.239 data sharing; and SIP signaling/H.264 video/G.722 audio/BFCP data sharing, including its encrypted variation (SIPS with all audio, video, and data transports over TLS). Please note these are matched sets as follows:

  • H.323/H.264/G.722/H.239
  • SIP/H.264/G.722/BFCP
  • SIPS/and all transports over TLS (i.e., H.264/G.722/BFCP use SRTP, SRTCP)

Does OmniJoin Interoperability work with "security" and "direct IP" cameras?

No. Security cameras and direct IP cameras are a different product category. Some of these cameras are H.264 compatible, but they generally use different signaling protocols and were not designed for boardrooms and business-to-business video conferencing applications. We do not conduct compatibility tests with security cameras and our technical support services department does not support them.

Can I connect two room systems without using the OmniJoin conferencing client?

No. At present, the beta release can only provide IP addresses in real-time via the host’s OmniJoin conferencing application (click Invite button). The meeting host must be in the meeting room and click the Invite button to dynamically generate the call-in IP address. This capability may be available soon, please contact us for details.

How many room systems can I invite to the same OmniJoin meeting?

Up to two. Each OmniJoin conference instance can accommodate up to two room systems (beta release). This limit may be raised in the future.

How many OmniJoin video attendees can I display to my room system?

Up to six. If there are more than six video participants, OmniJoin defaults to displaying the first six that joined the meeting. If the meeting host wants to select different videos, there is a pull-down menu on the attendee tree control (the "down" triangle). From there the meeting host can manually select up to six specific videos.

Can I force or require encrypted-only room system connections?

Yes. System administrators can force room system encrypted connections via user Profile settings. Please note beta release limitations regarding encryption and systems requirements regarding room system TLS security certificates.

Can I limit the use of Interoperability features to specific users in my organization?

Yes. System administrators can enable/disable access to this feature via user Profile settings.

Can I lock down my room system directory?

Yes. Only system administrators can edit the Organization room systems directory and enable/disable users from including their own room system addresses.
